I Can Run Free emerges from a weekly, process-led engagement in County Waterford, where children and their families worked alongside artists Maree Hensey and Francesca Hutchinson. Together, they travelled to the wide, open space of Clonea Strand—an environment chosen for its sense of freedom, equality, and safety.
Through shared exploration, the artists encouraged children to build confidence in their own experiences and ways of seeing. Families were supported to notice texture, materials, weather, light, and the simple act of looking. The book offers no instructions—just open invitations that help readers notice, reflect, and connect with their surroundings in meaningful, child-led ways.
