I Jumped So High

I Jumped So High

Child and Youth Experiences of living in refuge accommodation.

I Jumped So High is a moving and hopeful publication created by children in partnership with Aoibhneas Domestic Violence Support and Kids’ Own Publishing. Developed through a series of creative workshops with writer Jo Holmwood and artist Maree Hensey, the book brings together original artwork, writing, thoughts, and reflections from children who previously stayed in refuge accommodation.

Created by children, for children, the publication offers comfort, reassurance, and encouragement to other young people who may find themselves staying in a refuge in the future. Honest, thoughtful, and full of imagination, I Jumped So High highlights the importance of listening to children’s voices and creating space for them to share their experiences in their own way.

The project combines creative arts practice with community support, grounded in care, collaboration, and the lived experiences of the children involved.

‘This book is more than a collection of words and images, it is a testament to courage, creativity and resilience.  Each page offers a window into the lives of children and young people who have lived through the experience of domestic abuse and have found safety and strength in refuge.” – Grace McCormack, Refuge Coordinator, Aoibhneas
