Kids’ Own is buzzing today as our newest title A Bright Light has arrived! Written by children from families who foster, A Bright Light is filled with stories and artworks that reflect on their lived experiences of living with foster siblings. The children collaborated with our associate writer Mary Branley and our associate artist Karina Nachbar on a meaningful and creative process to make this book.
Ruby, Julia, Wilbur, Dolly, Bellatix, KT and Eleanor (Pseudonyms) were able to tell their stories whilst creating a series of fabulous stop-motion animations and other arts activities. They wrote their own storyboards first, created characters and sets and filmed the scenes. You can watch the quirky animations here https://kidsown.ie/watch-our-children-who-foster-projects-creative-stop-motion-animations/
“I thought it was going to be difficult to have another sibling, challenging to look after, but it’s actually really fun” Bellatrix
The foreword comes from Dr Liam White, area manager for Sligo, Leitrim, West Cavan. He says “Heretofore untold story, this colourful and enchanting book articulates the lived experience of children and young people whose families foster.”
“This book has created an awareness and deeper understanding of both the joys and challenges inherent in fostering. We would like to thank the children who took part and so willingly shared their stories. We are very grateful to them. We hope you enjoy.” – Foster Care Resource Service, Sligo/Leitrim/West Cavan
Stay tuned for the release date when you can buy the book online!
