We’re delighted to announce the launch of our newest title I Jumped So High, which took place in Dublin last Friday 15th May! This book was made in partnership with Aoibhneas Domestic Abuse Support, by children who had previously been resident at the refuge. This beautiful hardback publication combines artwork and writing developed by the participating children during the summer of 2025. Through artwork and writing, the children share their experiences of the physical space of the refuge and offer words of advice for other children who may stay there in the future, helping them to feel safe, welcomed, and less alone.
The launch was attended by children who participated in the project and their mothers, as well as members of the Kids’ Own team and staff of Aoibhneas. Aoibhneas CEO Emma Reidy gave a heartfelt speech, congratulating the children and referencing the special bond that builds among the residents of the refuge. One young participant made reference to this in the book saying, “We are all family in some way.” Katy Wilson, Child and Youth Worker with Aoibhneas also congratulated the children on their incredible work and their commitment to the project. She ended by saying, “I just want to encourage you all to continue to find beauty in your experiences and to support each other”.
Acting Creative Director of Kids’ Own, Jo Holmwood, who had also worked as the writer on the project alongside associate artist Maree Hensey, spoke about the special nature of this project and about the children’s bravery and generosity in their participation. She also shared the exciting news that I Jumped So High recently won gold at the Irish Print Awards in the category of Print and Design Collaboration, so it was a double celebration!
The children in attendance were given gifts from the refuge and celebrated afterwards with pizza and snacks! This launch also coincided with the launch of a brand-new website resource created by Aoibhneas called Want to Talk, which was created with input from an advisory group of young people who were also in attendance.
