Stories & illustrations by children and parents from County Roscommon.

Description

This book is packed with stories and illustrations by children and their parents from Co Roscommon. They give us heartfelt accounts of changes they have experiences, from moving home, to growing up, from loss and sadness to miraculous cures. These stories and images help us understand change from unexpected angles.

This project was a collaboration between Kids’ Own Publishing Partnership, Roscommon VEC Adult Education Service, Elphin, Loughglynn and Lisacul National schools and Roscommon Library.

I’ve changed my mind about horses: they are not scary at all.

– Christina

I was in hospital for 3 or 4 month. I hated it in beginning, the food and all was horrible… I love hospitals now, and I’m not even afraid of needles!

– Jack

This book took me on an adventure to really realise that not everybody’s life is a good as mine. That not everybody has the same roof over their head for their whole life. I felt relaxed because of the words the kids used, and happy to know that the stories ended up with good endings.

– Book review by Abby, age 11

This project gave parents and children an opportunity to reflect on the changes in their own lives and on how individuals, families and communities have adapted to and used those new circumstances to grow.

– Irene Greene and Briege Fullam, Co Roscommon VEC Adult Education Service
