We’re delighted to share news of a new Early Years research project starting this June, working closely with Traveller families and young children to explore creative play through the arts.
This project builds on years of Kids’ Own’s work with Early Years groups—most recently through our Arts in Early Years pilot and a creative programme with families in Dungarvan. Read more here
Funded by the Katherine Howard Foundation, this new project brings together two of our associate artists, Maree Hensey and Francesca Hutchinson, who will work alongside families a set of expressive and imaginative sessions exploring meaningful play, creativity and the arts. In collaboration with Kids’ Own, a team of researchers from the Froebel Department of Early Learning and Childhood Education at Maynooth University will carry out a study to learn more about what Traveller parents want for their children’s early education and creative experiences.
The research will focus on input from parents and also on observations of children’s play and engagement during the sessions. A final report will be developed by the research team to share key findings.
This project is an opportunity to celebrate culture, creativity, and the important role of the arts in early childhood and we’re proud to be working alongside Traveller families, artists and researchers to make it happen.
More updates coming soon!
