Kids’ Own is excited to celebrate Charlie Barley and All His Friends! Originally published in 2001, this beloved book is a delightful collection of nursery rhymes, jokes, and illustrations created by children from St Edward’s National School, Our Lady of Mercy Primary School, and St Enda’s National School in Sligo.
This special event will be part of the Tread Softly Festival and will take place at The Model in Sligo, where the book was originally launched in 2021! Join us on Tuesday, August 6th, at 5:30 PM to honor this unique collection and reconnect with the original contributors. The celebration is held in partnership with the Sligo Traveller Support Group.
Charlie Barley and All His Friends is the result of collaborative workshops involving Traveller children and their peers, alongside aritsts and writers. Filled with nursery rhymes and jokes, the book reflects the diverse experiences and imaginations of the children who created it, with guidance from artists Orla Kenny, Dermot Seymour, and Diarmuid Delargy.
You are all invited! Hope to see you there.
