Four Seasons in Our Garden Book Design Underway!

Kids’ Own is happy to announce that the design process for Four Seasons in Our Garden; A Yearbook is now underway! Created in partnership with Cranmore Community Garden,  this innovative project brought together a diverse team of artists, scientists, and community participants to explore the intersections of art, biodiversity, and climate change.

Project Manager Lorna Kavanagh and our Associate Artist Vanya Lambrecht-Ward are currently immersed in the final stages, sorting through an impressive collection of artwork produced over the course of the project. Reflecting on this creative journey, Lorna shared:

“We have been processing and sorting all the artwork from our Cranmore Garden project this week. It’s a joy to see all the creative pieces that are inspired, respond to, and reflect the garden and our environment. Such a delight and joy to ruffle through these amazing pieces created over 9 months working with the inspiring group, and the awesome artists and scientists. Next step will be chats with the designer and the group to see how the draft of the book is coming along. Countdown to a new book launch!”

This project was supported by the Creative Climate Action Fund.  It has brought together artists such as Sarah Lundy, Karen Webster, Ruth Le Gear, Naomi Draper, and Brenda Kearney, with guidance from Vanya Lambrecht Ward. Environmental scientists Ruth Quinn, Fiona Britton, Aga Piwowarczyk, and Martina Kilian also played a vital role, contributing their expertise to enrich the creative process.

The project’s primary focus has been on celebrating biodiversity, addressing climate change, and supporting intergenerational connections within the Sligo community. Through workshops and collaborative sessions, teenagers and older generations worked side by side, finding creative solutions to the pressing issues of climate change and biodiversity loss.

As the project draws to a close, the team is now consulting with participants on the design and production of a new book, which will encapsulate the artwork and findings from the past year. In line with the project’s themes, we are exploring sustainable printing and binding options to ensure the book reflects our commitment to the environment.

This upcoming book will not only showcase the stunning artwork created by the participants but also serve as a lasting reminder of the powerful connection between community, creativity, and the natural world. We eagerly anticipate sharing the final product with the wider public.
