A Bright Light is Launched at The Model!

On Wednesday the 1st November we launched our fantastic new title A Bright Light, a book written by children from families who foster. The event was held at The Model in Sligo and was attended by the children and their families, our associate artist Karina Nachbar and our associate writer Mary Branley!

Anne McGloin, Social Work Team Leader from the Foster Care Resource Service  said of the event  “The launch of the book “A Bright Light” at The Model  afforded us an opportunity to celebrate the wonderful contribution that children who foster make to the lives of children in care. This book has created an awareness and deeper understanding of both the joys and challenges inherent in fostering. We are so grateful to the children who  wrote and illustrated the book in conjunction with Kids Own Publishing Partnership. It is an amazing achievement which will live long in the memory by virtue of this marvellous accomplishment.”

Kids’ Own Creative Director Dr Ciara Gallagher added “Kids’ Own is so proud to publish this beautiful book made by young people whose families foster  – a group of children and young people we don’t often hear from in society . The authors and artists who created this book together are so insightful, and they so generously shared their stories about their lives and experiences, and the importance of foster children in their lives. They’ve also shared their creative voices with us in the creation of this book which is so joyful and fun. I really think it’s an important book that has such a wide reaching relevance. We were delighted to have the opportunity to celebrate these young people and their work at the launch of A Bright Light.”
