Sligo Children’s Book Festival – 2015 programme

Kids’ Own is delighted to partner with The Model and the Hawk’s Well Theatre to host the third Sligo Children’s Book Festival, celebrating family literacy and creativity of parents and young children. The action-packed festival will run from 5-8 March 2015 and feature storytelling, theatre, shadow puppetry, poetry play, lego workshops, music, a show all about books and the return of the Kids’Own Book Factory to inspire and entertain children and parents alike!

The third Children’s Book Festival launch will take place on Thursday, 5 March at 5pm, with free face-painting, storytelling and fun events for all the family at the Hawk’s Well Theatre. Over four action packed days from Thursday to Sunday a series of exciting events will take place at locations all over Sligo. Tickets for all of these events are now on sale and can be purchased from the venues involved:

Kid’s Own Book Factory
Kids’ Own hosts another whirlwind of bookmaking at The Model. Join this hive of industry and power the production line with your imagination and creative ideas in our custom-designed Book Factory! Get inspired and create your very own book with artist Naomi Draper. Booking is essential. The Big Draw : The Cat and the Moon
Little ones will explore the mysterious, moonlit world of Yeats “The Cat and the Moon” through storytelling, movement and lots of large scale, messy play! With artist Kate Wilson.
€8. Ages 2 – 4 years

Quercus Ensemble:
Roald Dahl’s Three Little Pigs
Thurs 5th March – 6pm – Hawk’s Well Theatre
Roald Dahl’s Three Little Pigs is a musical storytelling event for all the family. Come along and experience this fantastic musical adaptation by the composer Paul Patterson, of Roald Dahl’s dark and funny take on the traditional fairy tale.
€8/6 under 12s /€25 family. All ages

Gabriel Rosenstock
Fri 6th March 10am/11.30am/2pm – The Model
Gabriel Rosenstock is an author/translator of over 160 books, including 13 volumes of poetry and a volume of Haiku in Irish and in English, as well as numerous books for children. Bígí linn for an array of stories, tales and poems!
All ages/open to school groups only

Collapsing Horse Theatre Company
Human Child
Fri 6 March, 6pm – Hawk’s Well Theatre
Inspired by changeling myths and the poetry of W. B. Yeats, Human Child is a blazing adventure, fantasy story that mixes theatre, puppetry and live music.
€8/6 u 12s /€25 Family For children aged 8+ and anyone who has ever been a child.

This theatrical, interactive, fun-filled storytelling session will be crammed with twists on children’s classics and lots of Yeatsian turns of phrase, entertaining the whole family!

Through the craft of shadow puppetry actor Peter Sinclair (of Game of Thrones, Vikings amongs others) will bring to life the magic of Yeats’ The Cat and the Moon & much more!

The Tales of Jumbo the Elephant
Sun 8th March – 1.30pm – The Model
Local author Lionel Gallagher will read from a selection of stories from his charming books “Jumbo discovers Giraffeland” and “Jumbo wants to be a hippo,” with a backdrop of beautiful projections by illustrator Marina Wilde.

Poem Play
Sun 8th March – 2pm – The Model
Explore the magic of language and the potential to bring poems to life in this dynamic and interaction workshop, which includes collage, books, shadow-puppetry and lots more! Come join the fun with Peter Sinclair!
