Collaborative book project with the Ombudsman for Children

Project Overview

To celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Ombudsman for Children’s Office (OCO), Kids’ Own and the OCO are working in partnership to develop a new book on children’s rights and the work of the Ombudsman for children with a group of children from Sligo. This project aims to create a book that captures and amplifies the voices of children on their understanding of children’s rights and focusing on key areas of the Ombudsman’s work. The publication will allow children to explore their rights through creative expression, providing a platform for their voices to be heard.

Aims and Objectives

  • Develop a book publication in collaboration with children, young people, and the Ombudsman for Children to highlight key areas of the Ombudsman’s work.
  • Support children to explore their rights through creative processes, focusing on joy, connection, and deep listening.
  • Create a safe space for children to express themselves creatively on issues like education, cultural participation, and play.
  • Foster dialogue on children’s rights through collaborative activities with professional artists, encouraging confidence and self-expression.
  • Distribute the publication across Ireland to promote broader awareness of children’s rights and the work of the OCO.
