Recommended age: 5–8

Stories and anecdotes about keeping safe on the farm by 86 children from all over Ireland. Commissioned by the Health and Safety Authority of Ireland.

Description

This book is a celebration of life on farms in Ireland through the eyes and words of children. They tell us that farms are great places to live and grow up on. They also tell us how fragile life on the farm can be for children and adults alike, when chances are taken and safety is compromised.

The stories and images in the book were written and created by children aged 5 – 12 from all over Ireland who answered the call to enter a HSA art & story writing competition.

‘I liked how informative this book was and the fact that it used examples. I believe that anyone that reads this book would become very aware of the potential dangers on a farm. An example of what I learnt is that it is dangerous to climb on hay bales.’

– Book review by Michael, age 11

‘This book is an excellent farm safety resource for children, parents, and teachers. The input from the children gives a unique insight into hazards on a farm, through the eyes of a child. It provides a treasure chest of stories and pictures about staying safe on a farm.’

– Helen Carroll, RTE presenter, Ear to the Ground

Some of the chemicals, if you ate them, you could get a disease and you could die, or if you didn’t wash your hands after touching them… I keep telling my granddad to wash his hands.
