Kids’ Own in partnership with Wexford Libraries and Wexford Local Development are delighted to announce the launch of our latest book, Kind Hearts. The launch of the book took place in Wexford Library on Saturday 1st October. There was a great turnout with families and friends of the participants, as well as many community members. There were speeches from Wexford County Librarian Eileen Morrissey, Maeve O’Byrne and Diarmuid Doolan from Wexford Local Development, and Kids’ Own’s Creative Director Ciara Gallagher. The mayor of Wexford, Maura Bell, was also there to wish the young people well.
Cllr George Lawlor, Cathaoirleach, Wexford County Council officially launched the book after a speech commending the young people involved. The children and young people who created the book were the guests of honour, and a number of the young people read their work from the book. Ali took a bow for his creation of the cover art! After the official launch, everyone had some of the special “Kind Hearts” cake made by Sweet Dreams, Wexford.
Kind Hearts is about identity and belonging. Kids’ Own partnered with Wexford Local Development and Wexford Public Library Service to enable young people from Syria living with their families in County Wexford to take part in this story-making, writing, and publishing project. During the project, the young people met weekly to work collaboratively with artists Sarah Fuller, Helen Flanagan and writer Mary Branley. Using a wide variety of art materials, they have engaged in an extended creative process to create a child-authored, non-fiction book which celebrates their lives and experiences.
To celebrate the launch, there is 30% off our Kind Hearts book. Offer ends 31st October 2022. Buy Kind Hearts book here.
