Kids’ Own Publishing Partnership is delighted to announce that we won the Arts, Culture, and Literature Award at the Cathaoirleach’s Awards 2024. The ceremony, held on Wednesday, 11th December at County Hall, celebrated outstanding contributions across eight categories, recognising individuals and groups making a real difference in Sligo.
Our CEO, Ciara Gallagher, accepted the award on behalf of Kids’ Own, reflecting the hard work and dedication of our team and the young people we work with across Ireland.
Celebrating Creativity and Inclusion
The Cathaoirleach, Councillor Declan Bree, opened the event with words of praise for Sligo’s vibrant community, stating, “Tonight, we gather to celebrate the remarkable individuals and groups who make Sligo a vibrant and dynamic place to live. Your hard work and commitment to our community are truly inspiring.”*
Kids’ Own was recognised for our commitment to providing children and young people with opportunities to express themselves through art and literature. This year, one of our standout projects was a collaboration with St Cecilia’s Special School, resulting in a beautifully crafted book featuring the children’s artwork.
Our work brings children, artists, and writers together to create meaningful projects where young people can share their voices and experiences. Through initiatives like our Youth Advisory Group, we ensure that children’s ideas shape the creative process and the work we do.
We are proud to have been recognised alongside so many incredible nominees and winners whose efforts enrich the fabric of our community. From environmental initiatives to cultural contributions, the awards highlighted the diverse talents and dedication of groups across Sligo.
The evening closed with a wonderful performance by the Sligo Concert Band, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
Kids’ Own extends our heartfelt thanks to the Cathaoirleach, Councillor Declan Bree, and Councillor Gino O’Boyle who presented our award to us, and the Awards Committee for this honour. We look forward to continuing our work with children and young people to create projects that reflect their creativity and unique perspectives
