Kids’ Own seeks freelance Grant Writer (temporary) to assist with developing and writing funding applications.

Kids’ Own is seeking a freelance, temporary Grant Writer to assist with developing and writing a range of funding applications. We invite applications/tenders from suitably qualified/experienced individuals in response to the information below.

About Kids’ Own

Established in 1997, Kids’ Own is a children’s arts organisation and publishing house, driven by a passionate belief in the intrinsic value of the arts. We work to give children greater access to cultural expression and to actively create, enquire, communicate and make meaning through the arts. Our ethos is rooted in professional arts practice and through professionally published outputs (in print and online) we elevate the status of children’s voices and artwork and bring these to a wider audience. With a strong social justice agenda, we support children of all backgrounds and abilities to be seen and heard in our society. We recognise that children have multiple modes of expression and we promote ways of working that encourage and support this.

For over 25 years, we have developed a wide range of projects with children and young people, to ensure that they have the opportunity to access meaningful engagement with the arts, and to have their voices and creativity heard and respected more widely in society.

The role of Grant Writer

In order to develop and facilitate these projects with children and young people, Kids’ Own seeks funding from a wide range of sources. As the organisation grows, we are committed to developing links with a broader range of funders, and want to dedicate attention to potential EU funding streams.

With support from the Arts Council Capacity Building Scheme, we now invite proposals from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to assist the CEO with the development of funding applications. This is a temporary, freelance contract, taking place over a 4month period, beginning early October 2023. The timeline and work schedule for this piece of work will be agreed between the CEO and successful candidate. There is a set fee of €5,000 for this piece of work.

The Grant Writer will:

Identify new funding opportunities suitable for Kids’ Own and the projects we have in development
Draft funding proposals in response to opportunities identified
Work closely with the CEO/Creative Director on funding applications that are currently in development, as well as new funding proposals to a range of national and other funding sources

Qualifications and experience

A background in or good knowledge of arts practice with children and young people.
Interest in and strong commitment to advocating for children’s voices and rights. Previous experience in this area would be desirable.
A relevant qualification in arts, education, or community/charity sector
Experience in writing funding applications, particularly in the arts, and a proven track record in securing funding.
Up-to-date knowledge of national and EU funding streams.
Excellent written and oral communication
Experience with self-directed projects
