Kids’ Own Partners with Sligo Children’s Community Garden for Rainwater Workshops

We are excited to announce our collaboration with Sligo Children’s Community Garden on their incredible Rainwater Project! 🌧️✨

Sligo Children’s Community Garden has received funding from LAWPRO to install a rainwater harvesting system on the roof of their newly constructed story shed. This initiative is set to make a positive impact on the local water catchment, community well-being, and sustainable water management. It also promotes self-sufficiency, especially during dry periods.

Kids’ Own, funded by Creative Sligo will join the garden in August to facilitate three follow on intergenerational workshops focused on rainwater and its uses. Kids’ Own associate writer Jo Holmwood will join Ruth Le Gear and Melissa Culhane for these exciting and informative workshops which will build on the engagement that took place in June with Ruth and Melissa.

Ruth and Melissa have already led some fantastic workshops as part of the garden’s initiative. These workshops included activities such as rainwater meditation and collaborative river drawings, which were a great success.

Connecting with Water
Let’s close our eyes and imagine something fun. Imagine you are a tiny raindrop. Can you picture yourself falling from the sky? Where would you go? Think about how raindrops have been around for a very, very long time. They’ve been through hundreds of summers! Some raindrops were around when woolly mammoths walked the earth. Some were frozen in big icebergs, and some even traveled with glaciers, those giant ice rivers…

We  are excited to join this initiative in August. Our workshops will build on the foundation set by Ruth and Melissa, providing a creative and educational experience for participants of all ages.

We are excited about the upcoming sessions in the Story Shed and to showcase the creations during Heritage week on 25th August where the theme is “Connections, Routes and Networks”.

Stay tuned for more updates as we explore the wonders of rainwater and creativity together!
