by Kids’ Own
Kids’ Own are honoured to be part of a four-year partnership with UNICEF Ireland, supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB). The COLOUR project – Communities of Learning, Openness and Understanding through Rights – will bring schools, children, families, and communities together across Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland.
At its heart, the COLOUR project is about connection. It will create child rights clusters made up of primary schools from different communities on both sides of the border – from Carrigans (Donegal/Londonderry Derry) to Newry and Dundalk. While schools can already take part individually in the UNICEF Child Rights Schools programme, this project takes things further by encouraging collaboration across communities.
By working together, children and educators will explore rights-based themes in a creative and meaningful way. The project will nurture positive cross-community relationships between teachers, parents and students from diverse backgrounds, denominations and ethnic groups. Using the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) as a shared framework, COLOUR seeks to build mutual respect, understanding, and lasting peace.
Kids’ Own’s role will be to support schools in developing creative resources on rights and diversity – resources made by children, for children. This work will shine a light on children’s voices while advancing new thinking on how child rights education can strengthen communities.
We are proud to join UNICEF and partner schools on this journey, and to play our part in shaping a society where children’s rights are valued and respected in every community.
UNICEF Ireland is the lead partner on this project and project partners are Kids’ Own, UNICEF UK and University of Ulster.
