by Kids’ Own
A childrens arts organisation and publishing house.
Kids’ Own is excited to announce a new collaborative book project with Respond, Ireland’s leading housing association, in Waterford. This initiative aims to engage local children and young people in exploring themes of identity, home, and belonging through the arts.
Respond has been instrumental in encouraging community spirit in Waterford, particularly among children and young people. Their previous programmes have highlighted a significant interest in the arts, with participants expressing a desire for more creative activities. This project is a direct response to that feedback, designed to expand and enhance arts engagement.
A significant part of the project will be two week-long summer camps in 2024. Children from Respond’s services will explore topics such as home, family, community, and heritage. These workshops, led by experienced artists and writers, will allow participants to express their thoughts and ideas creatively.
The completed book will be distributed throughout the community, enhancing the visibility of children’s voices and cultivating a sense the importance of community and belonging. This initiative not only celebrates creativity but also strengthens community ties by providing a platform for diverse stories and experiences.
Kids’ Own and Respond look forward to the positive impact this project will have on the Waterford community, highlighting the importance of arts in fostering understanding and connection. Stay tuned for more updates as we embark on this creative journey together.
