Dún Laoghaire Children Create Handmade Book as part of Cruinniú na nÓg

As part of DLR Libraries Cruinniú na nÓg celebrations, children from Dominican Convent created a handmade book together! Over three sessions of creative engagement, the children worked with writer Mary Branley and artist Vanya Lambrecht Ward to create their own stories and hand-made prints. During the first session, the children talked, made connections, and began to think out loud on paper. We thought about place, travel and where we best like to be. The children’s prints and stories began to emerge and take form in the second workshop with printing, writing and drawing. In the third session, the children completed their stories and prints, edited and layed out their pages, bringing together their travels and favourite places. They then combined their individual prints and stories into a beautiful large-format, hard-backed concertina book.
This book is on display in the DLR LexIcon from the 15thof June, to celebrate Cruinniú na nÓg, and can be viewed until the end of July. If you are in Dún Laoghaire, please check it out! Scroll through the images below for a sneak preview of the book!
This project was generously funded by DLR Libraries as part of their Cruinniú na nÓg programme.
