Sharon’s practice focuses on and gravitates around drawing, incorporating moving image, stop-motion animation, painting and print, exploring themes relating to the human condition – with emphasis on mind/body synergy. In recent years Sharon has been exploring the parallels between running and drawing. In July 2017 she was Artist in Residence for the World Championship 24HR Race from which she developed ideas that culminated in a project Mind Fuel supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and which focused on psychological aspects of endurance / ultra running. Sharon was again artist in residence at the Irish 24 HR Race in Belfast, July 2018 and conducted interviews with athletes as part of her research. The outcomes were presented in a multi-media exhibition in Belfast in September 2018.
In 2017 Sharon created the set and drawing projections for the dance production, Landscapes of Loss – a contemplation on the territory of grief over time; a project that she initiated with writer Martelle McPartland and which was developed with Maiden Voyage Dance and presented in the MAC, Belfast and Market Place Theatre, Armagh. In 2018 a solo exhibition Heartscapes, curated by Sharon Murphy, was hosted by Draíocht, Blanchardstown and which included selected works from almost 30 years of her practice.
