2026 Arts in Education Portal Spring Regional Day

Kids’ Own Publishing Partnership was delighted to support and coordinate the 2026 Spring Regional Day on behalf of the Arts in Education Portal at Garage Theatre on Saturday 25 April.

The day brought together artists, teachers, educators and creative practitioners from across the arts and education sector for a rich programme, chosen by the Portal Editorial Committee, of presentations, discussion and hands-on workshops exploring creativity in educational settings. The event opened with reflections from Dr. Katie Sweeney, followed by a welcome from Teresa McSorley, who spoke about opportunities for artists and teachers in the North-East region.

Participants heard about a range of inspiring creative projects, including Mindful Transitions – Learning Through Creativity, presented by artists Sally-Ann Duffy and Caroline Clarke, which explored school transitions through collaborative arts experiences. Teacher Oonagh Gilsenan and artist Rebecca Maguire also shared their imaginative TAP residency project Waves and Wonders, giving attendees the chance to take part in the creative process themselves.

The afternoon featured interactive workshops led by musician Aidan Dunphy and circus artist Maria Corcoran, offering participants opportunities to explore rhythm, movement, play and performance in educational contexts.

Throughout the day, there was a strong sense of connection and shared learning, with attendees exchanging ideas and experiences from across the sector.

A sincere thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the event, especially the team at Garage Theatre for their warm welcome and support.
