Kids’ Own is delighted to announce our next new project as part of the Traveller Wellbeing Through Creativity Programme, which was officially launched on Thursday 14th May at the National Museum of Ireland. Kids’ Own attended the launch event alongside fellow funded organisations. The Traveller Wellbeing through Creativity Programme is designed to support creative projects that help improve the health and wellbeing of Traveller communities across Ireland.
Partnering with Leitrim Traveller Project, Kids’ Own’s project is an Arts in Early Years Programme taking place at Shannonside Childcare, Carrick-On-Shannon. Artists Francesca Hutchinson and Maree Hensey will work with ECCE age children to explore art making and visual culture, with the project culminating in an intergenerational family sharing day. Our project also provides the opportunity for a Visual Artist from the Traveller community to be mentored by Francesca and Maree in the area of Arts in Early Learning and Care settings.
The launch event provided an opportunity to hear about the other projects which received funding and to meet with fellow grant recipients. Hosted by Pa Reilly from Pavee Point, the event provided space to discuss our projects, including what we are most looking forward to and what we have concerns about. It was a privilege to be in the room with organisations doing fantastic work, and really inspiring to hear about the other projects. We look forward to commencing the project in September 2026.
The Traveller Wellbeing Through Creativity Programme is a partnership between the Health Service Executive (HSE), the Arts Council Ireland, Creative Ireland, and Healthy Ireland, under the governance of the National Creative Arts and Health Steering Group.
