News from the Schools Exhibition Project with Mayo Arts Service!

The Schools Exhibition Project in partnership with Mayo Arts Service, Mayo County Council, was in full swing in March, when all schools had to close. Artist Kiera O’Toole had been working with 4th class from St Angela’s N.S., Castlebar to explore and respond to some of the artworks that are part of Mayo County Council’s Art Collection. The project continued with some online workshops last month. You can read about the project in more detail here.

This week 4th class from St Angela’s will be getting some important post! Our artist Kiera has put together a guide for our young artists in 4th class that we hope will inspire them to create more of their own artwork. The guide focuses on testing all kinds of materials as an artist and discovering how they work, making our own natural art materials and inks, and drawing ON the landscape! Kiera’s guide gives insight into how she works as an artist, and invites the children to create their own work with her.

The Kids’ Own team is beginning the process of bringing together all the work that 4th class have done with artist Kiera to create a published resource for other schools in County Mayo to use in conjunction with the Schools Exhibition Programme. We are inviting the young artists from St Angela’s to send back their artwork and their writing, so that this important part of being an artist at home, can also be included as part of the published resource.  We can’t wait to see what comes in the post!
