In 2014, Kids’ Own was awarded the contract to lead a consultative process among arts and education stakeholders, in partnership with the Arts in Education Portal Advisory Committee, towards the development of a content plan for the new Arts in Education Portal, which launched in May 2015 at Dublin Castle. Subsequent to this, Kids’ Own was contracted to manage the Arts in Education Portal during its first year, and led the implementation of a commissioning plan, through which dynamic and inspiring content was developed to support the arts in education community, to build the skill base, and to offer inspirational insights into best practice.
As part of the commissioning plan, Kids’ Own also managed the inaugural Arts in Education Portal National Day, which took place at the Irish Museum of Modern Art on Saturday 23rd April 2016.
The Arts in Education Portal was one of the objectives of the Arts in Education Charter – signed December 2012 by the Minister for Education and Skills and the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. A major objective in the Arts in Education Charter, was the establishment of a National Arts in Education Online Portal for arts education in Ireland. The development and management of the Portal has been overseen by an advisory committee (now the Arts in Education Portal Editorial Committee) represented by individuals from stakeholder groups across the two sectors, and by the High-Level Implementation Group for the Arts in Education Charter, established by both Ministers in 2013.
