Kids’ Own has completed a series of 10 creative workshops as part of our collaboration with the Ombudsman for Children’s Office (OCO) to develop a children’s rights book. These workshops provided young participants with a space to explore the importance of their rights in a creative and meaningful way.
Sarah O’Keefe, project manager, shared:
“As part of our collaboration with the Ombudsman for Children to create a book focused on children’s rights, we conducted a series of engaging creative workshops with young participants. Through these workshops, children explored the importance of their rights and the role of the Ombudsman for Children in a creative and meaningful way. The final outcome will be a published book, distributed to children, teachers, libraries, and schools.”
Alongside the children’s rights book, we are also developing a teacher’s resource, which will be available in both Irish and audio format, ensuring greater accessibility for educators and students alike.
To enhance the book’s impact in schools, we invited teachers from St. Cecilia’s, St. Edward’s, and St. Joseph’s to contribute to a support section that will help educators use the book effectively in classrooms.
A dedicated teacher workshop, led by writer Mary Branley, writer Jo Holmwood, and artist Andy Parsons, provided a space for teachers to explore creative approaches to engaging students with the book’s themes. The session sparked valuable discussions, fostered new connections, and inspired practical ideas on bringing children’s rights into the classroom.
With the workshops now complete, we’re excited to move forward with the book’s publication. The final book and teacher’s resource will be distributed to children, schools, and libraries across Ireland, keep an eye out for its release!
