Here in Ourselves project in partnership with Mid-West School for the Deaf continues with a new publication coming later this year!

Kids’ Own was delighted to begin a brand-new project last year in partnership with Mid-West School for the Deaf, Limerick. In the first stage of this project, Jo Holmwood, writer and Creative Director of Kids’ Own, connected virtually with senior class children at the school, via digital technology including an interactive whiteboard. You can read more about this part of the project here.

At the end of 2019, Kids’ Own went to the school again for a final, in-person creative session! The group made life-size cut outs of themselves and recorded short video messages. It was wonderful to meet in person again after getting to know everyone through our virtual creative sessions. Have a look at some of the photos from our meet-up in December below!

Kids’ Own is now working to create a book from the young people’s creative work and their individual stories. We’ve loved hearing the group’s stories and interests and we can’t wait to share this book with you! We hope to launch this publication later this year in the school with the children and their teacher, Michelle Creed.

The second phase of this project was generously funded by Creative Ireland Limerick.
