Gestures of kindness by 3 and 4 year olds from Carlow, Kilkenny and Waterford
‘A Gift of Kindness gives a voice to young children’s thoughts and feelings about kindness, how they experience it and how they can be responsible for acts of kindness in their daily lives.’ – Jillian van Turnhout, Children’s Rights Advocate and former Senator
This book on the gift of kindness can be used in any early years setting, linking with all the themes of Aistear (the Early Childhood Curriculum framework) but, in particular, with the theme of well-being. One of the aims under the theme of well-being is that children will “be strong psychologically and socially”. To include kindness as part of the curriculum teaches children to think about their feelings and provides opportunities for them to experience and share kindness.
A Gift of Kindness is the result of a collaboration between Kids’ Own Publishing Partnership, Kilkenny, Carlow and Waterford County Childcare Committees and six early years settings in the southeast. The project was funded by the ESB Energy for Generations Fund.
