A new model of publishing for Kids’ Own, this historical novel was written by 11 and 12 year old children in Scoil Ursula Primary School, Sligo, alongside their teacher Ms Hoey and Kids’ Own writer and poet Mary Branley. The children worked with Mary to research, plan, structure, write, illustrate and edit the book, the publishing costs for which were covered by pre-sales.
As a historical novel – set during eighteenth century France, just as the Bastille is stormed – the theme and setting for this book stemmed from the curriculum areas that the children were exploring at the time.
“An astonishing achievement for such young writers, but while they may be young they are certainly not immature. Rebellion is written to a very high standard indeed […] The pacing is breathless and draws the reader through the story, desperate to find out what will become of Leon.”
Eoin Colfer – author of “Artemis Fowl”
