A book project and national construction safety initiative led by the Health & Safety Authority, and delivered by Kids’ Own in partnership with the HSA, Kilkenny Education Centre and the Association of Teachers’ Education Centres in Ireland (ATECI).
Primary school children from across Ireland took part in a competition led by the HSA about life and safety in the construction industry, submitting creative writing, drawings, paintings and photographs. In summer 2015, Jo Holmwood and Orla Kenny from Kids’ Own together with artist Sharon Kelly led workshops with competition winners at Education Centres in Sligo, Athlone, Limerick, Kilkenny, Dublin West and Navan.
The resulting book combines poignant advice and cautionary tales by 89 primary school children as they share their knowledge and experience of the high-risk construction industry and spread awareness amongst families employed in construction.
Grandad built our house was officially launched by Minister for Business and Employment, Ged Nash T.D. on 1 December 2015 at Croke Park.
