Smarter Travel

What factors influence our decisions about the way we travel? What can we discover by choosing new ways of travelling from one place to another? How can we encourage children and families to explore the outdoors and think differently about their journeying experiences in their local area?

These are just some of the questions we are beginning to explore with children in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford, as part of our brand new ‘Smarter Travel’ book project, funded by Go Dungarvan.

We joined children aged 3-11, from Le Cheile Community Childcare Service, Little School of Montessori, Scoil Garbhain, and St Mary’s National School for creative sessions that explored themes of movement and travel. We began by taking the line for a walk, with charcoal and tape, and creating our own maps. Over the coming months the children will be building on their explorations to create a brand new book.
