Kids’ Own have developed a flexible, fluid model that is transparent
and process-led. We provide a way of working that empowers children and young people to develop their individual creative expression through authentic arts practice.
Dialogue is essential in all our work. The model we have developed provides the time and structure for those involved to work together to plan, play, enquire, discover, create, learn, fail and succeed.
A core aim for Kids' Own is to continue to lead and inspire best practice working with children. It is important for us that we continue to demonstrate exemplars of good practice, which push boundaries, exploring new ways of learning and working with children and young people through the arts.
We aim to continue to create opportunities for children and young people to engage with professional artists. The aim of this work is to provide a space for the children to express and share their real selves and voices.
The following are key features within all our work:
- Engagement and Participation: We aim to ensure that all our work is open to all children and their families, of all backgrounds abilities, languages and creeds.
- Access and Inclusion: Educationally and artistically, we adapt, adjust and support children of all abilities and needs.
- Advocacy: Raising the status of children as writers, artists and active citizens in promoting respect for cultural diversity, difference and identity.
- Empowerment: Providing an opportunity to create, give status and respect to children’s’ thoughts ideas, experiences, writing and artwork in a professional context.
- Professional development: supporting artists and other professionals to develop their practice working with children.
