"The 'Drawing Time' piece developed out of a number of ideas relating to where the children were at in their school life – at the point of moving on; childhood coming to an end and the transition to 'big' school…..The piece itself related very strongly to the sort of ideas explored in my own work. Themes of presence, absence, leavings, traces of things past and the idea of preserving, marking a moment or experience….I had also spoken to the children about my own video work, in which still images were set in a sequence to create effect of motion/movement. Ideas were discussed with the children and what emerged was the notion of creating a 'moving' drawing – a drawing being created. The beauty of how things worked in both schools was that it allowed for a kind of spontaneous activity or a kind of seizing the moment..."
