Children’s Environmental Field Guide Project

We are very excited to be partnering with our local school, St. Patrick’s NS in Maugherow, Co. Sligo on a brand new project, supporting children in learning more about environmental, sustainability and biodiversity issues through a creative process with an artist, writer and environmental scientist.

Supported by the Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund and IT Sligo Environmental Science Department, the project will result in the publication of a brand new book – a children’s environmental field guide.

With a view to developing a series of publications, exploring different aspects of the natural environment, this first phase of the project focuses on the coastline. We took a field trip to Raghly and conducted investigations into rock pools, birds, shells and seaweed. We brought our 8-page fold notebooks for field notes and drawings, and to document our observations and discussions. Follow up in the classroom will involve looking at some of our collected specimens under the microscope.

The children’s environmental field guide will be published later this year.
